The Manchester Institute for Popular Culture was set up in order to promote theoretical and empirical research in the area of contemporary popular culture, both within the academy and in conjunction with local, national and international agencies. It is a postgraduate research centre particularly engaged in comparative research projects around aspects of production, consumption, and regulation of popular culture in the city.
